About the trainer
Growing up in Southern California Melissa Rodden has been riding, showing, and training horses for over 30 years. She spent 15 years with her mentor Gail, a member of the Canadian Equestrian team, first as a client and then as her working student learning the ins and outs of running a successful International level show barn. She trained and rode with multiple Grand Prix riders and trainers over the years to advance her skills even farther . She has won in the hunter and jumper rings as a junior, amateur, as well as a professional. Her achievements in the hunter/jumper ring include wins at prestigious rated shows in CA (Showpark, Carlsbad, HITS, The Oaks, Industry Hills, Santa Barbara and LA Equestrian Center to name a few.)
She has successfully trained and started numerous horses from unstarted babies and ottbs to working hunters, Jr/Ao jumpers, high jump champions and everything in between. She spent a year studying Dressage with Kirsi, a Certified USDF Instructor to help her flat work which she uses to help her students and their horses jump better. She also spent a year with Cindi, a Reining and Cutting Horse trainer, and two years working and riding for a Western Pleasure AQHA trainer turning western horses into hunters and broadening her skills. She was a professional groom for many years instilling in her an invaluable knowledge of proper show turnout, which she takes very seriously to this day. She insists on impeccable turnout from her clients and her own horses.
Her students have been successful in the show ring on the A circuit for over 20 years. Currently one of her students is retraining and competing in the Retired Racehorse Project. She specializes in creating solid, confident riders who succeed in the show ring and with training their own horses.
After a near fatal car crash and several years bedridden she didn't think she would ride or train again, but she is making a comeback and ready to help beginners through seasoned riders who are looking for that competitive edge.
